The Tata Sierra EV has brought one of the most recognisable names in Indian motoring back as an electric SUV, and we have started getting enquiries from owners about protecting them. Here is a summary of what the car offers, and — since this is what we actually do — how we would approach protecting one for Hyderabad conditions.
Every figure here is as published by Tata or reported in the motoring press — we have not road-tested this car ourselves. Confirm anything that matters to your buying decision with your dealer. What we can speak to first-hand is the protection side, further down.
Exterior design and practicality
The Sierra EV keeps the bold, upright, boxy SUV shape that made the original recognisable, which sets it apart from the smooth, rounded styling most EVs default to. The electric version adds a body-coloured front panel, blue-edged Sierra.ev badging and matte-finish wheels.
Practicality holds up. A frunk of roughly 55 litres on single-motor variants and 35 litres on dual-motor versions is useful for charging cables, and a reported 205mm ground clearance suits Hyderabad's uneven roads and speed breakers well.
Interior space and comfort
The cabin is spacious, with a large boot around 622 litres — though the spare wheel gives way to a puncture repair kit. Rear passengers get generous legroom with a slight backrest recline, and the panoramic sunroof and three-screen dashboard give it a genuinely modern feel.
Reported weak points are hard plastics in places, uneven stitching and limited small-item storage. From a detailing point of view, large glass areas and light-coloured trim are the surfaces that show wear first — which is where interior care earns its keep on a car you intend to keep.
Features and safety
Higher variants are well equipped: ventilated front seats, powered passenger seat, driver memory, head-up display, three screens, dual-zone climate, and a 12-speaker JBL system. ADAS, multiple drive and terrain modes, regenerative braking and connected-car features are all part of the package on upper trims, and Google Maps EV integration helps estimate charge on arrival.
Six airbags are standard. The EV has not been separately crash-tested at the time of writing, though the combustion Sierra achieved a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating.
Performance, range and ride
Three powertrains are offered — 63kWh RWD, 75kWh RWD and a 75kWh dual-motor AWD. The top version is quoted at 306hp and 504Nm with a claimed 0–100kph of 5.8 seconds.
Claimed MIDC range is 565km for the 63kWh battery, and up to 665km single-motor or 624km dual-motor for the 75kWh. Real-world figures in city traffic will be lower — stop-start driving, air conditioning and load all take their share. Treat published range as a ceiling, not an expectation.
On charging, a 120kW DC fast charger is quoted at roughly 20–80% in 26 minutes, with a 7.2kW AC charger taking several hours. A 15-year battery warranty is a meaningful commitment for long-term ownership.
Ride quality is reported as composed for a 2.1-tonne SUV on 19-inch wheels, with frequency-dependent dampers handling broken surfaces well. Expect some body roll from the tall shape and wind noise around the A-pillars at highway speed.
Just taken delivery of a Sierra EV?
The best time to protect paint is while it is still factory-perfect. Bring it in for a free inspection and we will talk through what is worth doing.
Protecting a Sierra EV in Hyderabad
This is the part we can speak about from experience. A new EV bought to be kept for years is exactly the case where protection at delivery pays off, and our guide to PPF for EVs explains why in more detail.
- Paint protection film on the bonnet, bumper, fenders and mirrors — the panels that meet stone chips. On a boxy SUV with large flat surfaces, a single chip is very visible.
- Ceramic or graphene coating across the rest of the body for UV resistance, easier washing and fewer water spots. Graphene suits dark colours parked outdoors.
- Exterior decontamination to strip industrial fallout and road film before anything is applied.
- Interior detailing for seats, dashboard, carpets and the large glass surfaces.
- Glass and tyre care to finish, plus heat-rejection film if you want to reduce the load air conditioning puts on the battery.
- EV-safe methods — careful work around the charging port and high-voltage components, and no pressure washing near sealed electrical areas.
Frequently asked questions
What is the real-world range of the Tata Sierra EV?
Tata quotes MIDC figures of 565km for the 63kWh battery and up to 665km for the 75kWh. Real-world range in city traffic is always lower because of stop-start driving, air conditioning and load. Treat published figures as a ceiling and ask your dealer for owner-reported numbers.
Should I get PPF on a new Sierra EV?
If you plan to keep it for years, film on the front end is worth serious consideration while the paint is still perfect. Boxy SUVs have large flat panels where a single stone chip is very visible, and fitting film later means paying for paint correction first.
Is detailing safe on an electric car?
Yes, with the right method. We avoid pressure washing near sealed electrical areas and work carefully around the charging port and high-voltage components. Everything else — decontamination, correction, coating — is the same as any other car.
Does a ceramic coating help with EV range?
Not directly. What can help slightly is heat-rejection window film, because a cooler cabin means the air conditioning draws less from the battery on a hot day. A coating's benefit is protection and easier cleaning, not efficiency.
How soon after delivery should I get protection applied?
As soon as practical. New paint is the easiest to protect and needs the least preparation. Waiting months means road film, water spots and early swirl marks that have to be corrected before anything goes on top.
Our take
On paper the Sierra EV is a strong package for Hyderabad — the ground clearance, ride comfort, cabin space and range all suit how people actually drive here. Interior finishing and throttle calibration are the areas the press has been most critical of, and they are worth forming your own view on during a test drive.
